Testimonies of Healing

"Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget...

From the April 1950 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases." I had always hoped that the Scriptures would unfold the secret of spiritual healing to the present age. As I picked up the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, I read on page vii of the Preface: "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings. The wakeful shepherd beholds the first faint morning beams, ere cometh the full radiance of a risen day." Realizing the promise of those "first faint morning beams," I felt somewhat the power of the "full radiance of a. risen day;" the cares of the world fell off my shoulders, and I began to lean on "the sustaining infinite."

Many and varied have been the benefits of Christian Science to our family. We have had healings of lack of employment, chicken pox, and earache through our own understanding, the last two being instantaneous. Healings of headaches, coughs, croup, periodic disturbances, and other ills Have resulted from the work of devout practitioners. I wish to express my appreciation for this splendid work and for Mrs. Eddy, who made all of this available; also for class instruction, membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, the periodicals, and the Hymnal.

One of our children fell out of the car while it was going. People gathered, offering kindly to take him to the hospital or a doctor, but I said firmly, "He is all right, thank you." I put him in the car, and we soon reached home, where I telephoned to a friend who is a practitioner. She reminded me (Ps. 34:20), "He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken." Although the child became unconscious, and members of the family insisted upon calling a physician, I kept in touch with the practitioner.
