When it seemed that I had reached the place where I could go on no farther, I was given a copy of the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy. I had known about Christian Science for as long as I could remember, but had been taught that it was evil, the anti-Christ, and it was only when I became desperate because of the prolonged illness of a child in our home that I was willing to read this book. At that time I was suffering from a nervous breakdown, and after I read Science and Health through, the healing was so complete that I never once thought of the difficulty again for a whole year. I was told afterward that my neighbors had not expected me to live for more than two months.
We have had many proofs of Truth's healing power, one of which was an instantaneous healing of a sprained ankle for my oldest daughter; another daughter was healed of a severe fever when fear was uncovered and eliminated. She was also healed of a sore throat when resentment was overcome through singing the hymns in the Christian Science Hymnal for an hour.
For class teaching, which gave me a firm foundation on which to build my house, my consciousness, of Truth, I am grateful beyond words. This teaching, together with consecrated study of the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings, enabled me to go through a very difficult experience and to come through joyously and with a song in my heart.
