"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me" (John 14:1).
Several years ago I came to a point in my life where it seemed there was no use in trying to go on. I had read and pondered the fourteenth chapter of St. John for many months. Then one day I said, "Dear God, I don't know what to do; please show me the way." It was as though a voice spoke these words: "Christian Science." I had known of this Science for a long time, having friends who were students of it, but I had never been interested enough to inquire about its teachings. However, "man's extremity is God's opportunity," and so it was in my experience.
I immediately contacted one of these friends, who lived in another city. I was told to go to the Christian Science Reading Room and ask the librarian there to show me how to study the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly, and it was recommended that I attend the Sunday services of a Church of Christ, Scientist. This I did, and also the Wednesday evening testimony meetings. The Reading Room was indeed a haven of rest, and I shall always remember the love and helpfulness expressed to me by the librarian and the peace that came to me at the first Sunday-service I attended.
