Poems

Chosen Words

From the November 1951 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am a poet when my lyrics bring
Each man to feel the poetry that lies
Within his own heart that will leap to sing
When he has read a verse which testifies
Of beauty that his own thoughts recognize.

I am a comforter when words I choose
Inspire a fearful man to draw upon
His store of courage, which he then may use
To bring him closer to the Holy One
That he may hear God say, "Beloved son."
