MAN'S POSITION

From the December 1951 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Everyone is concerned more or less with the position in which he finds himself. Men and nations alike seek to improve their present status. It may be said that a large part of humanity's effort is expended in the endeavor to find a right position. Indeed, if one is to contribute his full measure of helpfulness to the harmonious activity of human affairs, finding his place is a necessity. To such a one the voice from the burning bush is calling now, as ages ago it called to Moses (Ex. 3: 5), "The place whereon thou standest is holy ground."

Basic in the teaching of Christian Science is the Biblical fact that God is Mind and that man is the idea, image, or reflection of Mind, God. Man occupies this position as the image, or reflection, of divine Mind by virtue of his relationship to Mind. The child of God is always in his right place or position, conscious of spiritual substance, harmony, perfection, and the allness of God, good. Through the teachings of the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, it is the privilege of everyone to understand scientifically his place in Mind. He may learn to rest securely and happily in the realization of man's unity with God, good, and know that he, as man, is never out of his one and only real position.

In working out the right sense of position through the application of Christian Science, the student soon finds that everything concerning place or position has to be lifted out of the domain of so-called matter into the realm of Mind. This Science makes evident that to be in our right place is to be in the right state of consciousness. Reasoning from this basis, one learns that the only position he can be in, then, is to be employed in right thinking. In the measure that each one makes the effort to think and live in accordance with the truth that man is created in God's image and given dominion will he overcome the false sense that would claim that he is not in his right place.
