A Christian Science treatment is a very natural thing, as natural as correcting a mistake in arithmetic. It is the use of the power of Truth to correct a condition that is not true. In order to correct mistakes in mathematics, we need to know the facts that are required. And if we are to make use of the power of Truth in Christian Science treatment we must have some understanding of the specific truths we can use. What are the truths that we need to know?
First of all, what do we know concerning Truth itself? In Christian Science, Truth is a synonym for God. No one doubts the existence of Truth. But it is right and logical to deny the existence of some of the mistaken concepts that are spoken of as God. To reject a false concept that has been called God may be an honest, intelligent refusal to accept anything less than Truth as God, and may open the way to a clear understanding of what God really is.
To recognize God as Truth, and Truth as God, leads to a realization of certain facts concerning the nature of God. As fundamental Truth, upon which all truths must be based, God is the supreme Principle which controls and harmonizes all the laws that actually exist. As the ultimate Principle which controls intelligent man and his consciousness of the universe, this Principle is the all-knowing God, or perfect Mind. Because He is completely intelligent, discerning and fully appreciating the goodness and harmony of the perfect ideas that express Him, God, Mind, by His very nature must be Love. Mind without Life would be inconceivable; God as Life is the necessary foundation of all the actualities that manifest Life. Principle, Truth, Love, Life, are some of the synonyms for God found in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and each one, understood, carries the power of Truth to correct mistakes and destroy falsities.
