DEMONSTRATION

From the May 1951 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Demonstration is a word that quickens the attention and hope of those beginning the study of Christian Science. It begets inspiration and courage in the heart of one reaching out to God to feel that at last he has found that whereby he can prove for himself the Word of God.

To know how to fulfill God's promises through the demonstration of Truth is one of the blessed things Mary Baker Eddy has shown the world in her revelation of Christian Science, which she discovered and founded. On page 14 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," she teaches that "to be 'present with the Lord' is to have, not mere emotional ecstasy or faith, but the actual demonstration and understanding of Life as revealed in Christian Science."

A Christian Scientist does not attempt to demonstrate material things, but he does strive to show forth, prove, and actually reveal the power, goodness, perfection, and glory of God, which are eternally established. A basic point to be learned in Christian Science is that God is good, and step by step Science explains how everyone may prove for himself the presence and tangibility of good. Since God is infinite, good must be infinite, everywhere, all around us, and we have only to claim it. And what else could be present and real, since God, good, is All-in-all? In order to partake of the divine power we must accept the truth that God is omnipotent, All, the only power. And because of His omnipotence we must necessarily know Him as omnipresence, the one Supreme Being.
