"COME TO THE FEAST OF LOVE"

From the September 1951 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Come to the feast of love, come ever knowing,
Earth has no sorrow but Love can remove.

These words might well have been written in invitation to a Christian Science lecture, for surely such a lecture is a "feast of love," expounding the truth of God and man that removes not only sorrow, but all discord and disease as well. This repast of the good things of Spirit sets forth the inspiration of holiness and the way to make it practical. No one who partakes of the nourishing truth of Spirit can fail to be strengthened and blessed by it. And, happily, unlike material food, the truth of Spirit is not depleted or destroyed in the consumption. Rather does it become more abundant and available, since all who are fed by it are in some measure prepared to share its goodness with others.

Mary Baker Eddy, who founded The Christian Science Board of Lectureship, felt deeply the need of humanity to be fed with spiritual food. Searchingly she listened for God to unfold various means of promulgating the truth that had been revealed to her, a truth so necessary to the salvation of humanity from its sin-enslaved, disease-ridden beliefs. One divinely appointed way of feeding the hunger of mankind is through lectures on Christian Science. Our Leader writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 234), "Whatever inspires with wisdom, Truth, or Love—be it song, sermon, or Science—blesses the, human family with crumbs of comfort from Christ's table, feeding the hungry and giving living waters to the thirsty."
