FULL COMPENSATION IN CHRIST

From the September 1951 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The Christ, God's true idea, supplies a recompense for all human suffering, injustice, persecution, and trouble by revealing the truth of being, which heals mind and body. Full compensation for discord is to be found in the regeneration and restoration which are brought about by the understanding of God and man in Christian Science. This religion defines God as eternal Truth, which knows no error, and man as the truthful expression of God's being, whose function in creation is to reflect all that is spiritually true. Therefore man is neither the medium of nor the transparency for falsity.

God is also the Life of man. Life defines the animating power which underlies all outward manifestation. Without Life, God, no truth could be real, no being could exist, no success could be assured, no adherence to Principle could be possible, no health or harmony could be enjoyed; but because God is eternal Life, all these qualities and conditions can be in human experience in bountiful measure through the demonstration of Christian Science. Life, God, is self-perpetuating. This means that there is no lapse from true being; for with God, to be is to continue endlessly. This is true of Him as cause, and it is true of man as His creation. Man is immortal because God is his Life.

There is nothing in God that needs to be changed. All that ever needs to be changed is the human sense of things. The change from discord to harmony, sickness to health, failure to success, and sin to holiness is effected through the understanding of God and man as they exist in reality. As this pure sense of being is permitted to replace false beliefs about God and man, it is expressed spontaneously in human regeneration. The Psalmist must have understood the divine manifestation of compensation when he said (Ps. 17:15, "As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness."
