It has been my privilege over a period of many years to be a member of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, as well as a member of a branch church.
Early in my study of Christian Science a difficulty arose in my home due to the necessity of a loved parent to make his home with my husband and me. A friend introduced me to a practitioner, telling me that she was sure this practitioner would be happy to help me, if I asked her. I felt impelled to talk to the practitioner, but I did not know one should pay for this help. After pouring out my troubles between tears, I left her home, wondering how I had had the courage to talk as I did to a total stranger. I had been taught that affairs of the home should remain in the home, and not be aired. However, when I returned home, I was met with an outpouring of love, and that particular phase of error never presented itself again. The healing was instantaneous.
Later, when I called on the practitioner to express my gratitude, I felt I wanted to give her something, as I knew where my help had come from. She explained that it is right to pay for the help we receive, and that when we do, many blessings come to us. This has proved true in my case, and I am grateful for this early lesson.
