Over twenty years ago acceptance and utilization of the truths taught in Christian Science restored me to health, happiness, and useful activity. Following a major surgical operation, my physical condition had been pronounced incurable by several doctors, and I was losing health steadily. Often for days at a time I would be completely unable to carry on normal daily activity.
One Sunday morning I awakened feeling too sick to rise. A friend who is a Christian Scientist was visiting us and asked if she could give me a treatment in Christian Science. I had no idea what a treatment was and felt too sick to talk about it; so I willingly agreed that if she thought it would help me, she could treat me. I was completely healed within the hour. I joined the family at breakfast and asked this friend what had brought about the healing. She told me that God's law of health had destroyed the belief of sickness.
The rest of that Sunday was spent learning about Christian Science. The whole family gathered together and listened to passages which our friend read from the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Verses were read from the Bible and clarified by her reading their spiritual meaning in the textbook. We also listened to the Christian Science church service which was radiocast that morning; it was a very different and beautiful service. That day every material remedy was gathered up and thrown away, never to be replaced. Furthermore, that day my husband, children, and I began to study and use the truths of Christian Science, the truths which Jesus taught and which our Leader was divinely led to give to the world in a form both understandable and practicable. That Sunday my life began anew. As I became aware that man is spiritual, never material, and put my understanding into practice, every medical law which had been laid down for me was annulled, and I became strong and happy. The healing was permanent.
