Testimonies of Healing

From all the many lovely proofs I have...

From the January 1952 issue of The Christian Science Journal

From all the many lovely proofs I have had of God's power I should like to single out one, because it may serve to encourage someone and help him to a firmer faith in the only power there is and because it is a shining example of what Mrs. Eddy says concerning healing physical sickness in her precious small volume "Rudimental Divine Science" (p. 2), "It is only the bugle-call to thought and action, in the higher range of infinite goodness."

One evening at the close of work at the office I went wearily out to my car, got in, and fairly collapsed in what I thought was sheer exhaustion. Later I found myself unable to use one entire side, and my speech was tangled. Upon reaching home, I was almost carried up to my room, and a practitioner was called. The next morning I was unable to speak coherently to her on the telephone. The immediate loving reply was, "Think clearly before you speak." This was truly a wonderful message, for it turned my thought more directly to God, and thereby removed the fearful fleeting suggestion that my speech might always be seriously affected. When the practitioner came to see me, she gave me a deep sense of peace by firmly anchoring my thought in God, in good. My entire side was normal again that same day.

A few days afterward I went downstairs and stayed until evening. Before going back to my room, I started to call up this friend, but dizziness suddenly seized me, my whole limb and foot crumpled under me, and were stiff and helpless; I was practically unable to think. I was helped to a couch, and the practitioner was informed. Here again reassuring word came that God guides, supports, and sustains. Not until this moment did I become aware of what name might be attached to the distressing state. A very frightening sense of myself in a disabled condition for life flashed across my mind, for I had not gained control of my speech. I shall be eternally grateful to God for Christian Science, for through the practitioner's consecrated work this fear was instantly dispelled, and the next moment I knew that God was already at hand, tenderly but strongly caring for me. Immediately I saw, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that God knows nothing of deformity and inactivity; in fact, He could not possibly cause them, for He expresses Himself only in harmony and perfection.
