On Friendship's Wings

From the May 1952 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Long had I looked for friendship that was true
To my ideal—joyous, comforting, free
As light, crowned with Love's healing radiancy.
On myriad paths I sought it, often through
A mist of tears. Then, lo, a grander view
Outpictured famine years. This I could see:
As I gave love, love echoed back to me.
Creation's vibrant tones poured forth anew!

Like an angel visitant that comes to bless.
Love plays upon life's harp with chords divine.
(Let no unguarded thought or word of mine
Impair the beauty of its sacredness.)
Though lips be mute, heart speaks to heart and sings
When heaven's hymn is borne on friendship's wings.
