DON'T BE DEFRAUDED

From the September 1952 issue of The Christian Science Journal

No one likes to be the victim of fraud. But sometimes a person may buy an article of furniture said to be of a certain period, or a painting purported to be the work of a famous artist, and find out afterwards that he has been deceived.

Many people today do not realize that they are the victims of fraud, and they would be surprised if told so. Yet the greatest perpetrator of fraud is mortal mind, which would, through the five corporeal, or material, senses—sight, hearing, taste, touch, and smell—make us believe and accept as true their false evidence. But Mary Baker Eddy states unequivocally in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 263), "Carnal beliefs defraud us."

Christian Science, which was discovered and founded by Mrs. Eddy, is based on the Bible. There it is recorded in the first chapter of Genesis not only that God created man in the image and likeness of Himself, but that "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." Like produces like. In this same chapter there is no mention of disease, sin, lack, sorrow, disaster, or any other form of evil. God, Spirit, infinite good, could not and did not create evil. Thus it was never created, and man, in Science, is never sick, sinning, in want, or sad; he is forever spiritual—diseaseless, sinless, joyous, whole, and perfect. The great spiritual facts of being remain unchanged eternally. Perfection is the fact in Christian Science—perfect God and perfect man—and man can never be defrauded of his perfection.
