I did not come to Christian Science for physical healing but for the healing of fear. One experience which overwhelmed me with fear was an alarming diseased condition which was manifested on my small daughter in the form of a large swelling. A practitioner was called and work taken up for the child. The condition did not yield quickly, but I knew that my consciousness and that of the child were being purified, and through this experience I learned numerous lessons.
Many times discouragement crept in, but each time the truth of some statement from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy was realized. This always dissolved the fear, and my thought rose to a higher perception of God. I earnestly desired spiritual light, intelligence, and I knew the healing would come. For a while the physical condition became worse, but as the resistance to the truth gradually abated and light appeared in my consciousness, fear was dispelled, and the physical healing came. This was after five months of striving to gain a higher understanding of God.
The doctor at the school had said that only a medical operation could remove the erroneous condition, but the operation of God's law, the law of good, dissolved that which was opposed to Truth. The silencing of the material senses through the practitioner's help and my realization in some degree of the child's relation to the one Mind, God, set her free.
