After my mother had had several operations for kidney stones physicians informed our family that she would not recover from complications that had developed. At the time, she was daily given hypodermic injections of morphine to relieve the pain. The textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and other Christian Science literature had been in her home when she was a girl, but until now it had never attracted her attention seriously. Her healing came in a short time simply through the reading of the textbook. This healing took place twenty years ago, and my mother is well and happy today.
Several years later I began to suffer from stomach ulcers. I was placed on a strict diet, and for several years I tried various remedies. At my mother's suggestion I finally turned to Christian Science for help, and I shall always remember the light of hope which filled my consciousness as I sat listening to the words of Truth the practitioner spoke. She told me that because man is created in the image and likeness of God, Spirit, he is therefore spiritual and perfect. Following this, she spoke with authority of the dominion given man over all the earth, as recorded in Genesis. I realized that with this dominion I could eat anything I desired. In that moment I was instantaneously healed. I had gone to the practitioner's office in severe pain, and I left free and uplifted. This healing took place nineteen years ago and has been permanent.
From young girlhood I had been interested in the Bible, but I believed it to be contradictory and could not feel any confidence in the kind of God about whom I had been taught, one who brought death and affliction to our loved ones for some good purpose. After my first healing I rejoiced almost constantly in the truths found in the Lesson-Sermons given in the Christian Science Quarterly. I saw that the Bible needed only to be interpreted spiritually to be understood.
