I took up the study of Christian Science...

From the February 1953 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I took up the study of Christian Science a number of years ago when one who was very near and dear to me decided to turn to it for physical healing, having become discouraged while under the treatment of an eminent physician. The healing was accomplished through Christian Science. Since that time my experience as a student of this beautiful truth has been one of exaltation and progress out of a state of material thinking into the realm of spiritual discernment.

A healing for which I am truly grateful was that of a very painful and quite alarming condition which had existed for more than two years. Although I never had a diagnosis, I believe medical science would have termed it malignant. The practitioner who was helping me, early referred me to a paragraph on page 395 of Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy, which reads in part, "It is mental quackery to make disease a reality—to hold it as something seen and felt—and then to attempt its cure through Mind."

One day on leaving this practitioner's home, and while in a rather distressed and fearful attitude, I asked for continued help. He promptly but lovingly replied that he felt I did not need further treatment. This conviction was apparently just what was needed, for from that time there was gradual but definite improvement. Although it was some months before the condition entirely disappeared, the healing was complete and has been permanent during these several intervening years.
