I write this testimony with the deepest humility, for I do not wish to be like the nine lepers that did not return to give thanks when healed by the Master. It is my privilege to be a member of The Mother Church, and my heart overflows with gratitude to our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for giving to the world a better understanding of God and of the teachings of Christ Jesus. After reading the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," it is very understandable to me why Christian Scientists love Mrs. Eddy for sharing her discovery with them.
For ten years I had a sore on my lip which physicians diagnosed as cancer. It did not yield to medical treatment, but grew in size. It was ugly and at times very painful. One day, while in a state of despair over this condition, I picked up a Christian Science Sentinel and read an article that had a message which seemed to be just for me. Its title was "God Can Cure Anything," and it pointed the way to the healing Christ. I reached out to God in faith, and through the inspiration received I knew that I had touched the hem of Truth's garment. All my fear and despair was gone. Joy and happiness filled my heart and made me forget the trouble.
The next morning when I was shaving I accidentally touched my lip. There was no pain. I curled the lip back and looked at it in the mirror. Every sign of the cancerous sore had vanished. I wept in gratitude and gave thanks to my Father-Mother God.
