Christian Science first came to me as the Comforter when I saw a copy of the Journal in the home of a high school friend. I did not know anything about Science at the time, but as I read the Journal, its message seemed to offer anchorage and refuge from a confused world and disturbed human relationships. One of the articles spoke of God as an impartial, all-loving, and all-providing Father. That met my first great need.
Secondly, this new religion promised surcease from pain and illness without the use of medication or surgery. There had been much sickness at home, for both myself and other members of the family, and this promise would meet a second great need.
My young friend gave me some insight into the teachings of Christian Science by saying, "God is our only doctor," and, "We give thanks before we see the results." That was all she said. During a number of years that followed I spent a great deal of time in Reading Rooms and at church services. The quietness in both places attracted me and did much to counteract pressures and confusions of all kinds. Through the years the physical healings have been innumerable and unfailing. I shall mention but two of them.
