With an ever-increasing sense of gratitude...

From the May 1953 issue of The Christian Science Journal

With an ever-increasing sense of gratitude for the many blessings which have come to my dear ones and me through the study and application of Christian Science I wish to offer this testimony. My first healing was that of a chronic functional disorder of many years' standing. My second healing was that of tonsillitis, from which I had suffered for many winters. Help from a faithful practitioner was requested, and in several days I was entirely free. There has been no return of the attacks.

For many years I suffered severe headaches. I was often under the care of a physician and felt weak and exhausted. After taking up the study of Christian Science and having a practitioner help me I gained considerable relief; but the fear remained with me. Searching my thought for the cause, I found that I was indulging in a great deal of false responsibility, pride of accomplishment, and hurried human activity, feeling this to be my duty.

On page 496 of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy states, "You will learn that in Christian Science the first duty is to obey God, to have one Mind, and to love another as yourself." And on page 385 she says, "Whatever it is your duty to do, you can do without harm to yourself." These statements were very helpful to me in pointing out my first duty. With continued study I began to express less fear, more calmness, and a greater sense of assurance and joy. The healing then came quickly.
