For over forty years I have recognized Christian Science "as the law of God, the law of good, interpreting and demonstrating the divine Principle and rule of universal harmony," as our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, defines it on page 1 of "Rudimental Divine Science." I did not come into Christian Science for physical healing but as the result of a search for a satisfying religion, which I had not found in orthodoxy. However, in the intervening years I have experienced numerous healings.
My introduction to Science came when, as a young newspaper reporter, I was assigned to cover a sermon which the minister advertised would contain an attack on Christian Science. Not being particularly interested in the subject at the time. I went to the service as I would to report any other local event. However, as I listened to the minister's statements, the thought came to me that the people he was denouncing were totally unlike several prominent citizens whom I knew to be Christian Scientists. My mental reaction was: "I don't believe this man knows what he is talking about. I'm going to look into this religion." This I proceeded to do, discussing it with several of my Science friends.
I did not become a Christian Scientist at that time, but I know now that the seed of Truth was planted in my consciousness then, for nearly two years later when a dear one had been sentenced by the medical profession to a life of semi-invalidism, I was guided to ask her if she would be willing to try Christian Science. "It can't hurt you, and it might help you," I said. Having submitted to operations and long-continued medical treatment, she was willing to try anything that offered hope. As a result of her reliance on Truth she received a beautiful healing after a few weeks' treatment by a faithful, consecrated practitioner.
