GIVING TESTIMONIES

From the May 1954 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The Church of Christ, Scientist, is a healing Church. The revelation of Christian Science, which has come to us through our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, has again made practical the healing method so successfully practiced by Christ Jesus, by his disciples, and in a degree by the prophets who preceded our great Master. Mrs. Eddy was divinely inspired to establish several means by which this healing truth would be made available to those hungering and thirsting for the truth. One of these is the provision for testimonies to be given at the regular Wednesday testimony meetings.

In the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy are these words (Art. VIII, Sect. 24): "'Glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's' (St. Paul). Testimony in regard to the healing of the sick is highly important. More than a mere rehearsal of blessings, it scales the pinnacle of praise and illustrates the demonstration of Christ, 'who healeth all thy diseases' (Psalm 103:3). This testimony, however, shall not include a description of symptoms or of suffering, though the generic name of the disease may be indicated. This By-Law applies to testimonials which appear in the periodicals and to those which are given at the Wednesday evening meeting.''

Many come to these testimony meetings because they hope to hear of a healing which will show them how someone else has overcome a problem similar to their own through the application of the truth as revealed in Christian Science. Some have come in urgent need of healing, and have walked out completely cured.
