Gratefully and humbly I wish to submit...

From the May 1954 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Gratefully and humbly I wish to submit my testimony of healing and protection experienced solely through the study and practice of Christian Science. While I was serving in an executive position for a large nationally known company, my health became impaired, and a medical examination indicated that I was suffering from a nervous breakdown. My physician advised a change of work, a complete rest for at least six months, and a very rigid diet.

Previous to this experience I had been afflicted with bilious attacks, which were believed to be hereditary and which had confined me to my bed at regular intervals, and they now became more serious than ever. I was led to ask a business associate, who I knew was interested in Christian Science, whether this religion could help me; and, if so, what steps to take.

He referred me to a practitioner, who, after an interview, agreed to work for me. A copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy was purchased, and I found the book so interesting and absorbing that I read until I had finished it. It was like a drink of cool water to a parched throat, for it quenched an insatiable desire I had long felt to know more of God and of man's relation to Him.
