Having boarded in the homes of other...

From the May 1954 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Having boarded in the homes of other people during my childhood, I grew up feeling sorry that I did not have a home of my own. It was not until I joined The Mother Church and a branch church that I learned the true nature of home as a manifestation of God's love for His children. I found that God always has provided a home for His children and that He always will. My gratitude for this assurance is beyond words. I am grateful for the faithful practitioners and for the fact that our son has had the privilege of attending the Sunday School from an early age.

Only a few of the many healings we have had can be listed; sometimes they came with the help of practitioners and sometimes through my own understanding. There have been healings of diphtheria, virus infection, hemorrhoids, astigmatism, a badly bruised hand, gland trouble, tonsillitis, burns, and so-called children's diseases. A very limiting sense of human goodness has been replaced with the realization that God is the source of all good and that each of His children reflects this good. Many false traits of character have been eliminated, and a better understanding of true ability has been gained.

When I expressed the desire to be freed from the coffee and tea habits a loving church worker pointed out the first two sentences on page 80 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy: "We have strength in proportion to our apprehension of the truth, and our strength is not lessened by giving utterance to truth. A cup of coffee or tea is not the equal of truth, whether for the inspiration of a sermon or for the support of bodily endurance." Instantaneous freedom resulted. It was such a clear proof that God answers right desire that I did not even feel that I was giving up anything.
