With humility and gratitude I submit this testimony of the efficacy with which Christian Science heals and saves. My introduction to the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, came in a Christian Science Reading Room, where I read till informed by the attendant that it was time to leave. I told her that I did not want to leave the textbook, as I had already discovered that it had the answers to my many problems. She gently informed me that I could borrow a copy, and this I was pleased to do.
I was famished for spiritual nourishment, and in the textbook I found the bread of Life. For the next three months little else was read. I obtained a copy of my own, a Bible, and the Christian Science Quarterly and began to grow in the understanding of Christian Science. With the loving work of Christian Science practitioners, who helped me at various times, undesirable moral and physical conditions fell away, leaving "the peace of God, which passeth all understanding" (Phil. 4:7). Through the application of the healing truth such ills of the flesh were healed as tetanus, tinea, influenza, bronchitis, mumps, sprained ankles, and a broken toe. By my own work I was healed of a sore throat, a boil, and burns; also inharmonious relationships have been overcome. I know that there is no situation which Christian Science cannot heal.
I have never entered a Reading Room without coming away refreshed spiritually and physically. On one occasion I contracted ptomaine poisoning. My only desire was to go to the Reading Room, and I arrived in great distress. The librarian opened Science and Health and asked me to read with her the sentence (p. 463), "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive." She lovingly invited me to read it over again, and I did so. A strong desire to sleep came over me, and I went home and went to bed. When I rose the following morning I was entirely healed. On another visit to the same Reading Room I was healed of a difficulty that caused my eyes to water continually.
