In Christian Science we learn that there are actually no dead-end roads, no insurmountable barriers, no walls of partition. This absolute statement of truth can be proved now as in Scriptural times. In the Bible we read that although the Israelites faltered at the sea, they went forward under Moses' insistent command; that the three Hebrews were saved from destruction in the fiery furnace; that Daniel was protected from the lions. We read also that after his resurrection Jesus entered through closed doors the room where his disciples were sitting; that Peter was liberated from prison. These well-known Biblical accounts show that persistent prayer is rewarded.
When we are confronted with a problem, do we give up easily, as Hagar was tempted to do? Or do we do as Job did when he pleaded for death, thinking death would bring deliverance? Are we slothful or apathetic? Apathy and indifference are stagnant conditions of thought. True living is the continuous activity of inspired consciousness. Are we halted by fear when confronted with a problem, like the Israelites before the Red Sea? Or are we as indomitable as Moses was after God commanded him to tell the Israelites to go forward?
One never loses by the persistent affirmation of Truth, for Truth is always the victor, never the vanquished. Floundering in the mire of self-pity, slothfulness, or ignorance will never get us anywhere. We must be up and doing; we must go forward.
