In the Preface to "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy writes (p. vii): "The time for thinkers has come." Much more reading than right thinking has been done throughout the ages. Now it is time to do more right thinking than most of us have done.
Sometimes one hears students of Christian Science say, "I read for hours every day, and yet I do not find the solution to my problem." They refer to reading much in the Bible, the published works of Mrs. Eddy, and other authorized Christian Science literature. Sometimes the student has memorized and worked much with certain passages from the writings mentioned above, but still harmony has not been realized. Reading and memorizing are helpful and effective, but there is often need for more thinking along specific lines.
In order to understand and demonstrate Christian Science, it is necessary not only to read the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings, but also to do much clear, consecrated, and joyous thinking based on the truths presented. In the Bible, reference is often made to thinking and meditating on spiritual things. Mrs. Eddy points out many times in her published works the importance and power of right thinking.
