SERVING THE CHURCH

From the December 1955 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The study of Christian Science fosters a natural desire to serve the Church of Christ, Scientist. Opportunities to gratify this desire are provided as our concept of Church and its activity is spiritualized.

When his first application for membership in The Mother Church was turned down, one young student refused to yield to discouragement. He resolved to learn more of the true meaning of Church. He turned to the definition given in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 583): "Church. The structure of Truth and Love; whatever rests upon and proceeds from divine Principle.

"The Church is that institution, which affords proof of its utility and is found elevating the race, rousing the dormant understanding from material beliefs to the apprehension of spiritual ideas and the demonstration of divine Science, thereby casting out devils, or error, and healing the sick."
