Christian Science has healed me mentally, morally, and physically. In gratitude I should like to tell of some of my healings.
For quite some time I had been a fairly heavy smoker, and this habit continued even after I began attending services at a Christian Science Society. One day one of the members said to me: "If you keep on attending our services and faithfully studying the weekly Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly, you will find that you will not have to give up smoking; it will give you up." I thought his remark was, to say the least, farfetched. Nevertheless, smoking did become distasteful to me, and one noon hour I decided it was foolish to keep up the habit when I did not enjoy it. There and then I quit, and the desire for smoking completely vanished.
Another healing I experienced early in my study of Science was that of a fractured ankle. When the injury occurred, I immediately declared the truth that there are no accidents in Mind, but then I fell back into material thinking. I hobbled to my office the next day, and my employer insisted on an X ray. The plate showed a fractured ankle, and I was told I would have to remain at home for a least six weeks. During my first week of enforced idleness I tried every medical remedy I knew of, but there was no improvement and intense pain continued. Then my wife asked me if I would like a Christian Science practitioner to help me. I said that I would, and the practitioner referred me to a statement on page 471 of Science and Health. Here Mrs. Eddy tells us that in Science there is no lapse from harmony. That day was a Saturday. I studied the lines faithfully, and by Sunday morning I was completely healed and free from all pain. I returned to the office on Monday morning, and there has been no recurrence of the difficulty.
