LISTEN, AND THEN PROCEED

From the October 1956 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Problems of various kinds frequently arise in the daily course of human affairs. Sometimes they seem complex or most difficult. Often they seem to linger for long periods, unsolved.

From the human standpoint, problems arise because of a lack of something, induced by fear, ignorance, or sin. In a dictionary, "problem," in one sense, is defined as a "perplexing question or situation." The human tendency is to emphasize the difficulty and to rely upon material methods and sometimes upon sheer force of human will for the solution, especially in human relations. The strivings and efforts to find a solution are often unavailing.

How can the solution of a problem be reached? Here Christian Science completely reverses material methods and procedures. Instead of spending time worrying about the problem, we learn to direct thought to the fact that the answer already exists, in reality, in the realm of infinite, ever-present Mind, the source of all intelligence. The answer or solution to each problem comes to one through divine direction. What is needed is a right idea. This answer inevitably comes to direct our ways when we listen to the one, omnipresent Mind, which governs all.
