The mortal mode of living emphasizes material views of personal sense. Too often one thinks of himself as merely a mortal body with a mind inside. This belief of a corporeal person is not the idea of God's creating. Mary Baker Eddy states (Unity of Good, p. 46), "I do not deny, I maintain, the individuality and reality of man; but I do so on a divine Principle, not based on a human conception and birth."
Principle demands that each one express spiritual individuality. This means independence from personal sense and complete dependence on Principle, on our Father-Mother God. We express spiritual individuality by reflecting God—Life, Truth, and Love, not by believing in binding ties of misdirected human relationship. Christ Jesus, our Way-shower, early realized the necessity of expressing spiritual individuality. Even as the Master discerned his "individuality and reality," so can we discern ours.
Because Principle is omnipotent, there is no power to bind us to beliefs that limit or frustrate. Since Principle is omnipresent, there is never a time in which it is too late to exchange beliefs of personal sense for the spiritual understanding of Principle. As it is never too late to utilize the scientific knowledge gained in mathematics, so it is never too late to utilize the freedom and love that Principle eternally bestows on man.
