Christian Science was first presented to our family by a woman in charge of the office in which my mother was employed. I was enrolled in the Christian Science Sunday School, and from the first I loved the truths I learned. A few months after I started attending Sunday School I was healed of painful earaches, from which I had suffered periodically.
Later, when I married, my husband had no objection to attending church with me. As our children came along they were enrolled in the Sunday School. They have been comparatively free from childhood diseases. When one of the girls and one of the boys came down with a contagious fever which was prevalent in the neighborhood at that time we decided to call a practitioner. She quoted from the Bible (I John 4:18), "Perfect love casteth out fear." I thought, "Of course, there is only Love here." With that realization both children were healed of the fever, and none of the other children ever manifested any symptoms of it.
Later my mother asked me if I thought the little girl who had been sick was hearing all right. The child was standing at the window, and when I walked up behind her and spoke, she did not hear me. I turned her toward me and asked her what was wrong. She said, "I don't know; my ears feel funny." Deafness in our family was considered hereditary, and as I was rather fearful, I immediately called the practitioner.
