In Psalms we read (46:1), "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." For more than twenty years I have had innumerable proofs of the healing efficacy of Christian Science in my own experience and in that of my family. My gratitude is boundless for an ever-increasing understanding of the goodness of God and the power of His Word, as revealed to mankind by our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy.

During the Second World War my son, who was not at that time a student of Christian Science, was in a naval hospital with what was diagnosed as rheumatic fever. The attending physicians said he would not fully recover from this condition. He could not use his hands and was unable to walk. Upon the recommendation of the friend who had introduced Science to me, the Christian Science Wartime Minister in that hospital area was contacted. For several weeks he visited my son every afternoon, reading to him and explaining the wonderful healing truths of our religion.

In a few days there was marked improvement in his condition, and in a short time all materia medica was abandoned with the approval of the hospital physicians, who had agreed among themselves that there was nothing they could do for the boy. In the course of a few weeks every medical law about the case was gradually disproved. To the amazement of the doctors, normal use of the limbs was completely restored. Aside from the physical healing, we rejoiced in my son's great spiritual growth, which had also been brought about through this experience.
