Testimonies of Healing

Isaiah the prophet wrote of God as...

From the March 1956 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Isaiah the prophet wrote of God as saying (43:2), "When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee." This promise proved to be practical and helpful when an automobile party, of which I was a member, was marooned during a flood. While motoring to fulfill a business engagement, we were stopped by heavy winds and a deluge of rain. Cars were stalled by water reaching up to the running boards, and we found it impossible to go any farther. The driver of a large truck volunteered to tow us into a place which was less dangerous, and there we waited.

As a member of The Mother Church and a student of Christian Science who had been blessed by its healing efficacy for many years, I recalled that our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, writes in Science and Health (p. 293), "There is no vapid fury of mortal mind—expressed in earthquake, wind, wave, lightning, fire, bestial ferocity—and this so-called mind is self-destroyed." I tried to hold to the fact that man is safe because he dwells in the knowledge of God's goodness and power, but the evidence was very alarming, and fear had to be overcome from time to time.

At this point the driver and I decided to wade through the water and try to reach a telephone. He wished to get some information from his motor club, and I wanted to call for help from a Christian Scientist. I am grateful to say that my telephone call came through at once. The Christian Scientist to whom I spoke assured me that as a child of God I could not possibly be marooned or separated from God, and that His help was ever available. I was assured that Love was taking care of us and would surely open a way. These truths made me more conscious of God's presence, and at once I felt relieved, for I knew our help was at hand.
