From the March 1956 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When the truth of Christian Science was first revealed to our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, she did not intend to establish a new church, but she expected that the Christian churches would gladly accept her discovery. She soon realized, however, that these established churches were not prepared to receive her discovery and that in order to promote the Cause of Christian Science and make its healing and redemptive mission available to mankind, she must found a church for that purpose.
