THE FRIENDLINESS OF GOD

From the March 1956 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"The Lord spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend" (Ex. 33:11). Surely this Scriptural statement contains a message of good import for mankind. When one speaks to a true friend, he recognizes in that friend not ill will or wrath, but good will, loving-kindness, and beautiful characteristics, which certainly apply to the Father-Mother God. Moses advanced a nation's thinking out of slavery, imposed by ignorance of God, into the promised land of freedom.

Spiritual freedom belongs to all who understand how to commune with the friendly, all-loving, divine Mind. Through the study of Christian Science, men, women, and children everywhere are learning the value of constant, friendly communion with God. As a result, world thinking is slowly emerging from the darkened sense of an implacable, corporeal Deity. Through the revelation of this Science, humanity is awakening to recognize the friendliness of God and the operation of the beneficent law of divine Love, ever available to bless the children of men. The counsel of a true friend is often designed to rebuke laziness, deceit, and selfishness. From the friendly divine Mind come angel thoughts which counteract evil suggestions and which speak of man's likeness to Spirit, God.

Heeding these divine messages enables us to express our spiritual selfhood in truthfulness, unlabored energy, wisdom, and unselfed love. Thus in Christian Science practice belief in an inimical mortal mind and in its evil suggestions is destroyed as unreal through one's knowing the omnipotence and omnipresence of the one perfect Mind and its ideas. In fact, through the effective use of this Christianly scientific method of prayer, through the recognition of God's allness and man's likeness to Spirit, mankind can now find release not only from fear, disease, and sin, but from their effects: gaunt human warfare and stark want.
