Although I have been a student of Christian Science but a comparatively short time, I feel that I should give my expression of gratitude for all the good which has unfolded to me through Christian Science. I hope that my experiences will help and encourage others.
When I first attended a Church of Christ, Scientist, the readings from the desk impressed me, and without knowing why, I sensed that here was at least a partial answer to questions I had had for several years. A short time later I obtained a copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. After reading several chapters I knew that this book contained complete answers to all of my questions and problems. Through faithful, daily study of each week's Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly I can now understand the wonderful, revealing lessons of the Scriptures; and what is most important, I can apply the truths I find there to every conceivable situation which comes up in my everyday affairs. Accordingly, I find each day brighter, my daily tasks more pleasant to perform, and my relationship with my fellow men much more harmonious.
Although I was not seeking relief from physical suffering when I initially undertook the study of Christian Science, I have been cured of an internal disorder which I had had for several years. After exhaustive tests this ailment was diagnosed as intestinal spasms. The doctor had informed me quite frankly that the condition could not be cured by medical treatment. Shortly after coming into Christian Science, my wife and I disposed of all medicines and drugs in the house. A few nights later I was awakened with the most severe pains I had ever experienced. I immediately turned to Science and Health and studied for several hours. Slowly the realization of man as God's image and likeness, perfect and eternal, came to my consciousness. As this understanding appeared, the belief in pain disappeared, and I was able to sleep peacefully the rest of the night. I gratefully acknowledge that I have not had any further pain since the healing occurred.
