Testimonies of Healing

Christian Science has given me more...

From the April 1956 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science has given me more than grateful words can ever express. It has replaced sorrow with boundless joy, great fear with a deep-toned confidence in God's constant, loving care; and false traits of character have been replaced with spiritual qualities. Through the study and sincere application of the truths presented in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and in her other writings, I have been healed of conditions in my experience which would have appeared impossible of correction, and much spiritual growth has been realized.

Marriage to an earnest Christian Scientist has been a blessing to me, and three children were born under Christian Science treatment. It is difficult for me to imagine the raising of an active, young family without the ever-available help of Truth, as revealed in the study of this law of God, good. The love, encouragement, and support of consecrated practitioners have contributed greatly to our spiritual advancement. Our children have been healed of so-called children's diseases, of sprained limbs, effects of accidents, colds, and other ailments. They are being protected and directed through their own application of Christian Science as taught to them in the Sunday School.

One day our four-year-old daughter fell on a sharp stick about the size of a lead pencil. It pierced a nostril and protruded out of the tip of the nose. I took her into the bathroom, declaring with conviction, "It never happened to God's child!" From the textbook I quoted (p. 424), "Under divine Providence there can be no accidents, since there is no room for imperfection in perfection." I attempted to remove the stick, but it was held fast. After several such attempts, I became fearful. I called a practitioner, described the emergency, and requested help. She calmly and lovingly quoted (ibid., p. 463), "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive."
