It is with deep gratitude for Christian Science that I submit this testimony. My mother became interested in Science when I was a young girl. Whilst in my teens I was healed of scarlet fever in one night and of paralysis of the face in a few days. Also I was healed of an arm injury for which many different kinds of treatment had been tried but without their bringing relief. I was told that nothing more could be done, and for a few years I was in almost constant pain from my arm. After my mother and I had studied Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy for some time, the pain disappeared, and the arm has been normal ever since.
At the sudden passing of a loved brother, with whom I made my home, the truths of Life as taught in Christian Science helped me to overcome sorrow and despair. A new home was provided when I was ready for it. While living alone in the country I have been forced to rely solely on Christian Science and to work out my problems according to its teachings. Without Science I could never have overcome the difficulties I have faced.
One morning when I went out to the coal house, a strong wind blew the door with such great force that it shut completely, and the iron bar on the outside fell down into the hook and locked me inside. It would be over three hours before anyone else was expected to come. The thought that I would have to sit in the cold and semidarkness for that long a time was so distressing that I sat down on the stone step feeling very unhappy. But I quickly realized that such thinking was most unscientific and would not help me. I felt that here was a test and an opportunity to prove that Christian Science is practical.
