TRUE ELOQUENCE

From the June 1956 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When Christian Scientists truly desire to glorify God and bless others by audible expressions of gratitude at Wednesday testimony meetings in a Church of Christ, Scientist, this desire can be unfailingly fulfilled.

We need not accept the same subtle suggestions which aroused doubt and fear in Moses many centuries ago when God, the great I AM, commanded him to deliver the children of Israel out of Egyptian bondage. Moses said then (Ex. 4:10), "O my Lord, I am not eloquent." His strong self-distrust and hesitancy to accept the divine mission found assurance from God, who said, "I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say."

Let us affirm now that God is the one and only Mind, infinite intelligence, and that we are, in truth, His divine ideas. Like Moses, we have to learn not to limit our divinely bestowed capacity for good or to stifle true desire for full self-expression in the Cause of Truth. When the great Hebrew patriarch overcame and silenced the delusions of personal sense and accepted God's unerring direction without question, he led his people to a higher and more lasting understanding of the spiritual nature of Deity.
