My first healing was that of a severe colonic condition from which I had suffered for five years. I had been on a very strict diet which, according to physicians, would have to be continued indefinitely. After a three weeks' stay in a sanatorium under various treatments, I returned home still suffering from pain and weakness.
My attention had been brought to Christian Science, but I did not consider it seriously. After my return from the sanatorium, however, in desperation I asked my husband to take me to see a Christian Science practitioner.
My first visit to her brought a blessed assurance that God does not send suffering to His children and that all good is possible through a right understanding of Him. She showed me how to study the lesson-Sermons from the Christian Science Quarterly, and as I began to apply myself to the study of the textbooks, the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, a measure of understanding came to me. Though there was no immediate healing of the condition, there was steady improvement and a great lessening of fear as the practitioner continued to work for me. After six months' time I found that food did not disturb me, and I could once again eat whatever was set before me, doing so with gratitude instead of fear. There was a complete and permanent healing of the colonic condition.
