Since coming into Christian Science about fifteen years ago, I have had many proofs of its healing power. Words are inadequate to express my gratitude to God for His goodness as revealed to me through the study and application of this Science.
I was led to go to a library for my first information about Christian Science. Not knowing what to look for, I started reading the first book I found, which was an authorized biography of Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. Before I left the library I obtained a copy of the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. After reading this book for only a few hours, I realized I had found a God at hand and not one afar off, as I had been led to accept in my orthodox religious training.
After a few days of continued study of Science and Health, I found I was no longer smoking cigarettes; this was something I had done for a long time, although I had unsuccessfully tried to give it up by human methods. At this time too I lost the desire for strong drink. Also during these first few days of my study of Christian Science, some unlovely traits of character fell away, such as bad temper and swearing. Also healed at that time was my susceptibility to long periods of mental depression.
