All civilization, to a greater or lesser degree, is subject to and governed by law. Human laws, to the extent that they pattern divine law, stabilize and unify society. Such laws are not merely restraining; they are also protective. In our present state of progress these laws are needful and helpful. But all that is truly law, that which can in no wise be set aside or changed, that which has absolute authority to enforce its decree, is divine law. This law emanates from the one, unerring, divine Principle, which is God.
Christ Jesus understood and utilized this eternal, unchanging law of God. When he said (John 14:12), "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also," he was speaking of the intelligent use of spiritual law, the availability of this law to everyone, and the certainty of its ability to meet human needs. To Jesus, the law of God was not ritual or creed. It was the mighty, active, spiritual force of divine Love in orderly operation. He demonstrated the healing and saving power of this law in numerous instances.
Christian Science employs this same law. Indeed, Mary Baker Eddy's answer to the query, "How would you define Christian Science?" is, "As the law of God, the law of good, interpreting and demonstrating the divine Principle and rule of universal harmony" (Rudimental Divine Science, p. 1). This law is here now in our midst. No error can resist it. Through conscious utilization of this law, many are now proving that the claim of an opposite to spiritual law and power is the pretentious claim of mortal mind to authority which it does not possess and which the application of God's law immediately sets aside.
