A Lesson from David

From the November 1957 issue of The Christian Science Journal

David was alert. He ran to meet Goliath.
He took his stone, aimed true, and slung it.
The giant fell dead, and David triumphed.
He triumphed gloriously in the name of the Lord his God.

Do not wait for evil to come upon you,
To choose its own weapons and wrestle closely with you
Until you accept its thoughts as your own thinking,
And let fear pinion you, and despair, and self-depreciation.

Rejoice to meet the trial, whatever its nature.
The greater it seems, the greater the proof of God's care will be.
Hurl the truth you know against the facade of evil,
And it will collapse as Goliath did, and the might of the Lord will triumph.
