I would like to offer my testimony of the healing power of Christian Science. My heart is filled with gratitude and joy for what this religion has done for me and mine.
My mother was informed after the difficult birth of my older brother that she could not have another child. At this time she took up the study of Christian Science, and about two years later I was born with a Christian Science nurse in attendance. The birth was completely harmonious in every way, my mother said.
It was my blessed privilege to attend a Christian Science Sunday School until I became twenty years of age. Mother Church membership and more recently branch church membership have brought further unfoldment and growth in the demonstration of Christian Science. My gratitude for the various activities of our movement is unbounded.
One healing which has proved a beacon in my progress from sense to Soul was that of a badly sprained or broken ankle. After a severe fall while skiing, I was unable to put any weight on my ankle without a great deal of pain. The physical picture was indeed an alarming one. My first action upon returning home was to telephone a Christian Science practitioner, and the requested help was lovingly given.
At that time I had just become a member of a branch church. It was clear to me that this inharmonious condition was an attempt of mortal mind to prevent me from assuming certain church duties, including service as an usher, to which I had been looking forward with joy. Diligent study of the Bible and of Mrs. Eddy's writings brought the realization that fear had not been excluded from my thought. My first step, therefore, was to remove fear and replace it with an understanding of God's omnipotence and omnipresence.
The chapter in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy entitled "Science, Theology, Medicine" was of great help to me during this period, especially the passage which reads (p. 151), "Fear never stopped being and its action." On that same page Mrs. Eddy also writes, "All that really exists is the divine Mind and its idea, and in this Mind the entire being is found harmonious and eternal."
These statements were used with the Bible passage (Prov. 3:5, 6): "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." And they proved most valuable to me in working out this problem.
The healing took place gradually, and the physical evidence of the accident disappeared. I was able to take up my church work and return to my normal routine with complete freedom. The following spring and summer I engaged in tennis, hiking, and swimming without any difficulty whatsoever, and this healing has been permanent.
I have had many other physical healings through radical reliance on Truth alone. Gods power to solve problems of housing, employment, companionship, and right activity has been proved to me many times when I was truly willing to say (Luke 22: 42), "Not my will, but thine, be done." Each demonstration of Christian Science has brought with it a greater understanding of God's law of love and further practice in its utilization. My present opportunity to demonstrate the truth to the best of my ability and to work with a small group of Christian Scientists in a far-off land is indeed a glorious one.
With a grateful heart I wish to express appreciation of the loving support of The Mother Church and the channels through which that support is made manifest. The lecturers, teachers, Committees on Publication, and the Christian Science radio and television programs, as well as all the periodicals, are tangible evidence of Mrs. Eddy's statement (Science and Health, p. 559), "The 'still, small voice' of scientific thought reaches over continent and ocean to the globe's remotest bound." I am ever becoming more aware of the unique role of The Christian Science Monitor in bringing light and harmony to the turbulent arena of world affairs.
Truly Christian Science means everything to me, and I am grateful beyond words to Mrs. Eddy for giving this glorious religion of Love to the world.— Nagoya, Japan.
