I wish to express my gratitude to God for the teachings of Christian Science and for our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, who devoted her life to giving us this Science.
Having attended a Christian Science Sunday School from an early age, I am particularly grateful for the instruction received and for the sure foundation gained there. Except when I was wounded during the Second World War, I have never had any medical attention at all. As a child I had very few of the ailments associated with childhood, and those that I had were very rapidly overcome through Christian Science. In the twenty-odd years since leaving school, I have never had a day away from my work due to illness.
One particular healing which I should like to recount occurred while I was still a student in the Sunday School. I awoke in the middle of the night in intense pain, with what I believe must have been appendicitis. My first thought was to switch on the light and read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, which was close at hand, but the pain was so intense that I was unable to move. I was immediately seized with great fear and was about to call out to awaken my family to bring them to my assistance when I realized that the truths which I had been taught in the Sunday School were ever available and did not depend upon any material action for their application.
