"Christianity is the summons of divine Love for man to be Christlike —to emulate the words and the works of our great Master." These words appear onpage 148 in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" by Mary Baker Eddy and are part of an address which Mrs. Eddy prepared in the year 1899.
These far-reaching words, unique in their definition of true Christianity, were written when Mrs. Eddy had realized, in a large measure, much well-earned success for her faithful labors in establishing the Cause of Christian Science. Her words carry the wisdom of divine revelation to all mankind, for she demonstrated this Science in her own life with undeniable proof. Also this Science has caused countless numbers of men and women to accept Christ Jesus as their Exemplar, and as a result they have been healed and regenerated.
Mrs. Eddy follows the above remarkable definition of Christianity with this pointed counsel, which appears on the next page: "To attain to these works, men must know somewhat of the divine Principle of Jesus' life-work, and must prove their knowledge by doing as he bade: 'Go, and do thou likewise.' "
