Christian Science has been meeting my needs and those of my family over a period of twenty-five years. It first came into my life at a time when I was in need of a physical healing. I had experienced a collapse of one of my lungs, and when I failed to respond to treatment, materia medica could give me no encouragement. In this state of frustration, I was ready to give up all medical treatment and radically place my reliance on Christian Science to heal me.
Our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, says in our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p.120), "Health is not a condition of matter, but of Mind; nor can the material senses bear reliable testimony on the subject of health." It required much loving help from the practitioner during the mental transition from erroneous material concepts to spiritual ideas, but the physical healing followed, and it has been permanent. For the untiring efforts and loving help of the practitioner, I shall never cease to be grateful.
Christian Science also helped me when, during the illness, I was faced with the situation of being without employment, something I had never before experienced. Later I was confronted with the possible loss of my home. Although by this time I had obtained part-time employment, my earnings were far from being adequate to cover our expenses. Our two children were very young, and the responsibility of providing for my family placed me in a state of anxiety and fear.
