About 1954 a small growth appeared on my eyelid. Although I had been brought up in Christian Science since early childhood, I thought it would be simpler to go to a dermatologist and have it cauterized than to have it dissolved with the aid of Christian Science. To be perfectly frank, I did not think spiritual work could bring about the removal of this growth.
The doctor examined my eyelid, but said he could not remove the growth. So he took me to a practicing eye specialist in an adjoining office who removed the growth in the usual way; but he prophesied the worst while operating.
Although the growth was no longer visible to the eye, it had not disappeared from consciousness, and it was not long before a small hard lump appeared and continued to grow. Soon it was so large that others were continually calling my attention to it. I myself was finding it very unpleasant, and I also had become fearful. I knew that it was time to dissolve this error in the way Christian Science teaches.
