OVERCOMING FEAR

From the October 1959 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Fear often prevents our turning wholeheartedly to God for release from some physical problem or from some unfortunate turn of events and thus keeps us from receiving the benefit which such a positive step would surely bring. We may find ourselves saying as did Job (3:25), "The thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me."

Christian Science brings the glorious assurance that fear is no part of man as God's image and likeness. Since our human experiences are the manifestations of our thoughts, we have only to change our basis of thinking from one of fear and doubt to one of love, joy, and complete faith in the power of God in order to demonstrate our God-given dominion.

One may begin the study of Christian Science after many years of believing that he is a material body, guided by a personal mind inside, and subject to hygienic laws. He may also have believed that his daily experiences are subject to laws of chance over which he has no control. He will have to erase these false concepts and replace them with the truth that God is the only Mind and that God alone governs him. God's idea, man, is directly and completely controlled by the law of God, the law of good.
